Deception Pass / Skagit Bay
About Marine Area 8-1
Marine Area 8-1 covers the waters around Deception Pass and Skagit Bay, one of the most scenic and productive fishing destinations in northern Puget Sound. The strong tidal currents flowing through Deception Pass create nutrient-rich upwellings that attract baitfish and the salmon that follow them.
This area is known for excellent summer Chinook fishing, particularly around the pass itself and Rosario Beach. The rocky structure and current breaks provide ideal ambush points for salmon. Crabbing is productive in the calmer waters of Skagit Bay.
